Short Description: This in a Non NRA class that Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and operating a pistol safely. This is the exact same course the NRA had us teaching our students prior to 5/16/2016, except there will not be a student packet or certificate of completion issued.
More Details: This course is at least 8-hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Students learn NRAs rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination.
From The Instructors: This is our most popular pistol course and is designed for beginning
shooters. The Basic Pistol Shooting course encompasses both the NRA Home Firearm Safety and the NRA First Steps Pistol
Orentation course into a single 8 hour course. Unlike the NRA First Steps Pistol Orentation Course, the Basic Pistol Shooting
Class covers both revolvers and semi-auto pistols. There are also discussions involving firearms safety, owners rights,
responsibilities, transportation and storage.
Lesson I: Pistol Knowledge and Safe Gun Handling.
Lesson II: Ammunition Knowledge and the Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting.
Lesson III: Firing the First Shots.
Lesson IV: Scoring Targets, and Selecting and Maintaining Your Pistol.
Lesson V: Continued Opportunities for Skill Development.
Question: I'm not an NRA member, Do I need to be an NRA member to take this course ?
Answer: No, you do NOT need to be an NRA member to take this course.
Question: I don't own a Pistol, do I need my own a pistol or borrow a pistol to take this course ?
Answer: No. We supply all materials for the course, including handguns and ammunition for our handguns. If you own a handgun, you are welcome to bring it with you. If you are bringing your own handgun to shoot, you will need to bring about 25 - 50 rounds of factory ammunition for it. Reloaded ammunition is not permitted.
Question: I'm not from Pennsylvania, will I need a License to shoot in Pennsylvania ?
Answer: No, Pennsylvania does not require a License to handle or shoot a firearm.
Question: If I'm under the age of 18 can I come and take part in this course ?
Answer: Yes, you will need to have your Parent, Grandparent or Legal Guardian present taking the course at the same time, or Have a Notarized Letter from your Custodial Parent or Legal Guardian giving expressed consent for you to take part in the course.
We also require students to be at leat 14 years old to attend any shooting course.
Question: I would like to get my Concealed Carry Permit in New York City. But NYC requires "A statement
indicating that the applicant has been trained or will receive training in the use and safety of
a handgun". Does the Basic Pistol Shooting Class Satisfy the NYC Requirements ?
Answer: No, This Basic Pistol Shooting Class is not an NRA class and does not Satisfy the NYC and NY State Requirement. To satisfy the NYC and NY State Requirement, you need to take the NRA blended learning phase I and phase II.
