Short Description: Firearm Instruction, Responsibility, and Safety Training is the NRAs response to the American publics need for a firearm orientation program for new purchasers.
Prerequisite: None, However you should own a shotgun or have one available for use in this course. You should also have some knowledge about firearms.
More Details: NRA FIRST Steps Shotgun course is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific shotgun model. This course is at least three hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot a specific model shotgun at a moving target. Students will learn the NRAs rules for safe gun handling; the particular shotgun model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the shotgun; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, FIRST Steps Course completion certificate. From The Instructors: This course only applies to one specific model of
shotgun. This course is not designed for a beginner, but rather experienced shooters
who have just purchased a new shotgun and want to be familiarized with it's
operation. We recommend beginning shotgun shooters start with the Basic Shotgun Shooting Course which is designed for
the beginning shotgun shooter.
Lesson I: Introduction to Shotgun Safety, Parts and Operation.
Lesson II: Introduction to Ammunition and the Fundamentals of Shotgun Shooting.
Lesson III: Introduction to Shotgun Shooting at Straightaway Targets.
Lesson IV: Introduction to Shotgun Cleaning, Storage and Training Opportunities.
Question: I'm not an NRA member, Do I need to be an NRA member to take this course ?
Answer: No, you do NOT need to be an NRA member to take this course.
Question: I don't own a Pistol, do I need my own a pistol or borrow a pistol to
take this course ?
Answer: No. We supply all materials for the course, including handguns and
ammunition for our handguns. If you own a
handgun, you are welcome to bring it with you. If you are bringing your own handgun to
shoot, you will need to bring about
25 - 50 rounds of factory ammunition for it. Reloaded ammunition is not permitted.
Question: I'm not from Pennsylvania, will I need a License to shoot in
Pennsylvania ?
Answer: No, Pennsylvania does not require a License to handle or shoot a
firearm.
Question: If I'm under the age of 18 can I come and take part in this course
?
Answer: Yes, you will need to have your Parent, Grandparent or Legal Guardian
present
during the course, or Have a Notarized Letter from your Custodial Parent or Legal
Guardian giving expressed consent for you to take part in the course.
Question: I would like to get my Concealed Carry Permit in New York City. But
NYC requires "A statement
indicating that the applicant has been trained or will receive training in the use and
safety of
a handgun". Does the Basic Pistol Shooting Course Satisfy the NYC Requirements ?
Answer: Yes, This Basic Pistol Shooting Course Satisfies the NYC and NY State
Requirement.
This course also satisfies the safety course requirements for most States. You should
verify with your
local jurisdiction who issues your carry permit, as gun laws constantly change.
