Short Description: Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for the safe and proper use of a shotgun in shooting a moving target.
More Details: This course is at least ten-hours long and includes classroom and range time learning how to shoot shotguns at moving targets. Students learn NRAs rules for safe gun handling; shotgun parts and operation; shotgun shell components; shotgun shell malfunctions; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting at straight away and angled targets; cleaning; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Shotgun Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate. Firearm Safety and the First Steps Shotgun Orentation course into a single 10 hour course. Unlike the First Steps
Shotgun Orentation Course, the Basic Shotgun Shooting Course covers many different types of shotgun actions.
Lesson I: Shotgun Knowledge and Safe Gun Handling.
Lesson II: Ammunition Knowledge and the Fundamentals of Shotgun Shooting.
Lesson III: Firing the First Shots.
Lesson IV: Shotgun and Shooting Skills Practical Exercise.
Lesson V: Shotgun Games and Activities.
Question: I'm not an NRA member, Do I need to be an NRA member to take this course ?
Answer: No, you do NOT need to be an NRA member to take this course.
Question: I don't own a Shotgun, do I need own a Shotgun a or borrow a Shotgun to take this course ?
Answer: No. We supply all materials for the course, including Shotguns and ammunition for our Shotguns. If you own a Shotgun, you are welcome to bring it with you. If you are bringing your own Shotgun to shoot, you will need to bring about 25 - 50 rounds of factory ammunition for it ( Upland Bird or Clay Target Shells ONLY ). Reloaded ammunition is not permitted.
Question: I'm not from Pennsylvania, will I need a License to shoot in Pennsylvania ?
Answer: No, Pennsylvania does not require a License to handle or shoot a firearm.
Question: If I'm under the age of 18 can I come and take part in this course ?
Answer: Yes, you will need to have your Parent, Grandparent or Legal Guardian present during the course, or Have a Notarized Letter from your Custodial Parent or Legal Guardian giving expressed consent for you to take part in the course.
Question: I would like to get my Concealed Carry Permit in New York City. But NYC requires "A statement
indicating that the applicant has been trained or will receive training in the use and safety of
a handgun". Does the Basic Pistol Shooting Course Satisfy the NYC Requirements ?
Answer: Yes, This Basic Pistol Shooting Course Satisfies the NYC and NY State Requirement. This course also satisfies the safety course requirements for most States. You should verify with your local jurisdiction who issues your carry permit, as gun laws constantly change.
